SHORT BIOGRAPHY Ms. Diana Gates has worked at Gallaudet libraries since 1974. From 1983- 1995, when the Northwest Campus was closed, she served as Librarian at Gallaudet's School of Preparatory Studies. Currently, Diana is a reference and instruction librarian. Currently, she is liaison to the Departments of ASL and Deaf Studies; Hearing, Speech and Language Sciences, Interpretation; and Linguistics. Her responsibilities include the Library's Deaf Collection. Diana's current research is on Lydia Huntley Sigourney, Alice Cogswell's first teacher, before the Asylum in Connecticut was established. So far, she and a coauthor have presented papers at two conferences and have written an article that will be published in Sign Language Studies.A book proposal is in preparation. Diana also writes an occasional article or book review for Deaf History International Newsletter. Diana has promoted a number of literacy projects, among them book discussions, author lectures, ordering materials for leisure reading, and book displays.
