Indexes to Deaf, Deaf Education, and Audiology/Speech Periodicals

A Guide

This guide is divided into three sections: DEAF PEOPLE AND DEAF STUDIES, DEAF EDUCATION, and AUDIOLOGY/SPEECH.

Important notice: Except as indicated by an asterisk (*), these indexes do not index the periodical comprehensively. Most indexing services select and index only the articles that happen to fall into the service's particular subject area. For example, Psychological abstracts selects and indexes only those articles that are related to the field of psychology in some way, and ignores all the others.

EDLI, ERIC, GENL, and PSYJ are databases available for searching through the Gallaudet Library's ALADIN system. Most other references are to printed indexes, which are located on the Index Shelves, past the end of the Reference 900s section, on the Library's Middle Level. They are arranged alphabetically by title. A periodical's own index (if any) is located on the Deaf Periodicals shelves, with or inside the periodical itself. The Subject index to deaf periodicals may be requested at the Reference Desk.
