Distance Education Students

To qualify for Library services you must

  • Be registered through the Gallaudet University Registrar's Office during the current semester in a course that is
    • at least three weeks long
    • an off campus or extension program OR
    • continuous enrollment AND live outside a 100 mile radius of Washington, D.C.

You have access to

Borrowing books from Gallaudet and other WRLC libraries

We will mail books to you first class and pay one-way shipping. You must pay for return shipping. Books are due six weeks from the date shipped. You may renew books online up to three times. Policies for renewals and overdue fines apply to you, just as if you were on campus. To request a book, email library.ill@gallaudet.edu and include

  • Your full name
  • Your address
  • Number of the course you are taking
  • Author
  • Title
  • Publisher
  • Publication date

We cannot send these items to you

  • archival materials
  • items from the Deaf Copy One room
  • periodical volumes or microfilm
  • videotapes
  • reference books

To request an article that is not available online

  • Make sure the article is not available online.
  • Check to see if the article is available in print or microfilm format at Gallaudet University Library or at another WRLC library.
  • If Gallaudet has the article, email library.ill@gallaudet.edu and include
    • Your full name
    • Your address
    • Number of the course you are taking
    • Article author
    • Article title
    • Journal title
    • Journal volume, issue, and date
    • Article page numbers
    • Source of your information
  • If possible, we will scan the article and send it to you by email within 48 hours. Otherwise, we will send it through U.S. mail.
  • If Gallaudet does not have the article, but another WRLC library does have it, you may request it through the WRLC Consortium Loan Service. If possible, the owning library will scan and send it to you through email. Otherwise, it will send a print copy to us, and we will mail it to you.

If no WRLC library has the book or article you need, you may request it through Interlibrary Loan. Once we receive it from the owning library, we will mail it to you.
