Linkmaker: How to Use

How to create links in Blackboard to Library resources

  1. Log in to my.gallaudet.edu
  2. Click Courses (near top on right side)
  3. Click course you want to work on
  4. On left side, scroll down to and click Control Panel
  5. In "Content Areas" click Course Documents
  6. Open the "Select" drop down menu (on the right side) and click on Library Electronic Resource LinkMaker
  7. Be sure to click GO
  8. For online articles:
    1. Click Databases link - a new window will open - not in BlackBoard
    2. Choose the database that has the article you need. (If you need help identifying the database, contact the Library.)
    3. Search for the article however you choose
    4. When viewing the full article (either HTML or PDF or both, in which case you choose which you prefer), select and copy the URL from the browser's address box
    5. Back in BlackBoard, paste that URL in the "Link URL" box
    6. Enter the (optional) "Citation" information - suggest last name of author, title of article, and perhaps the volume, issue, date, and page(s)
    7. Enter the (optional) "Resource Title" - suggest the name of the journal
    8. Scroll to the bottom of the window and click Submit
    9. On the confirmation screen that says "Content Added" scroll all the way to the right and click OK
    10. There is now a link to that article in your list
  9. For electronic books:
    1. Click Catalog link - a new window will open - not in BlackBoard
    2. Search for the title of the book you want
    3. Find and click on the Gallaudet (GA) item that includes "[electronic resource]"
    4. Scroll down and click Click here to access this book
    5. The book will open in a new screen. Select and copy the URL from the browser's address box
    6. Back in BlackBoard, past that URL in the "Link URL" box
    7. Enter the (optional) "Citation" information - you could indicate the chapter name and/or pages; or you could indicate how to open the book - example: "Scroll to "Linked Resource" and click on the link there"
    8. Enter the (optional) "Resource Title" - suggest the title of the book, and perhaps the author/editor
    9. Scroll to the bottom of the window and click Submit
    10. On the confirmation screen that says "Content Added" scroll all the way to the right and click OK
    11. There is now a link to the ALADIN record for the electronic book in your list
  10. Repeat steps 8 and 9 as often as needed.
  11. When finished logout of my.gallaudet.edu
