Find a book in ALADIN

Get into the ALADIN system:

• If you are on campus, you can click on the ALADIN logo above to get to the Library's ALADIN system.
• If you are off campus, read "How to ... use ALADIN from off campus."

Get into the ALADIN catalog:

• At the ALADIN menu, click " ALADIN Catalog."

If you know the exact title of the book you want:

• Type the book title in the "Enter Search Terms" box.
• If the title starts with "A," "An," or "The," do not type that first word. Examples:

A Raisin in the Sun

The Cat in the Hat

• Click "Search."

If you want books about a topic and do not know any specific titles:

• Select "Keyword" in the "Search By" window.
• Type you topic in the "Enter Search Terms" box. If you use two or more words in a phrase, use quotations marks. Example: "deaf culture"
• To narrow your search, use "and" between two topics. Example: deaf and mainstreaming
• To broaden your search, use "or" between two topics Example: Hispanic or Latino
• You may use more than one of these tips in the same search. Example: (Hispanic or Latino) and deaf
• Click "Search."

If you are looking for books by a particular author:

• Select "Author" in the "Search By" window.
• Type the author's last name and first name. Do not use punctuation. Example: stokoe william
• At the next screen, click the name that mostly closely matches the author you want.

Results

• If there is one book that matches your search, the results screen will show detailed information about the book.
• If more than one book matches your search, the results screen will show a list of them. Columns to the right of the titles will show the code for the owning libraries and publication dates. Click the title you want for detailed information.

How to get a copy of the book (contact us for information):

• On the shelf
• At other WRLC libraries
• Outside the WRLC

General information about the ALADIN Catalog:

The "ALADIN Catalog" lists all the books owned by the eight members of the Washington Research Library Consortium (WRLC). You may

• use the "Limit By Location" window to search for books at only one library, or
• keep the default setting "none" to search for books in all the WRLC libraries

The owning libraries are identified by these codes:

• AU - American University
• CU - Catholic University of America
• DC - University of the District of Columbia (UDC)
• GA - Gallaudet University
• GM - George Mason University
• GT - Georgetown University
• GW - George Washington University
• MU - Marymount University
