Getting books from other WRLC libraries

(CLS - Consortium Loan Service)

Contents:

General Information
If Gallaudet does not have a book or journal article you need, you may request it from another member of the Washington Research Library Consortium (WRLC):

  • AU - American University
  • CU - Catholic University
  • DC - University of the District of Columbia
  • GM - George Mason University
  • GT - Georgetown University
  • GW - George Washington University
  • MU - Marymount University
You may not request books or articles that are available at Gallaudet unless they are checked out, lost, or missing.

To request a book

  1. Find the book you want in the ALADIN Catalog.
  2. Make sure that the book shows:
    • Location: "Stacks"
    • Status: "Available"
Any other location and status information means that the book cannot be sent and your request will not be filled.

EXCEPTIONS: Items from Georgetown (GT) or George Mason (GM) will not have item information in ALADIN. Instead, a link will be provided to either school's own system, where the information is available.
  3. Click the yellow Post-It note on the record that says "Request through Consortium Loan Services (CLS)."
  4. On the next screen:
    • Type your last name
    • Type in your university ID number or the Library barcode number from the back of your Gallaudet ID (begins "22884"). Do not use spaces.
    • Select "Gallaudet" from the drop-down list of Institutions.
    • Click "Go."
  5. In the "University ID" box, type the number you entered when you logged in
  6. Click "Submit Request."
  7. To get an e-mail notice when the book arrives, click on the myALADIN tab at the top of the screen and make sure your e-mail address is correct. If not, click "edit" and enter the correct e-mail address.

To request a journal article

  1. Get the complete citation for the article you need -- author, article title, journal title, volume, issue, date, pages.
  2. Make sure that the article is not available at Gallaudet either as a journal subscription or in an online database. This can be complex -- ask a librarian if you need help!
  3. Search for the journal title in the ALADIN WRLC Libraries Catalog. Select a record that shows a library that has the volume and issue you need
  4. Click the yellow Post-It note on the record that says "Request through Consortium Loan Services (CLS)."
  5. On the next screen:
    • Type your last name
    • Type in your university ID number or the Library barcode number from the back of your Gallaudet ID (begins "22884"). Do not use spaces.
    • Select "Gallaudet" from the drop-down list of Institutions.
    • Click "Go."
  6. In the "Library For Pickup" box, type "GA" if you want the article to be sent to Gallaudet. If you want it to be sent to another library, type the appropriate 2-letter code for that library. If you leave this blank, the article will be sent to Gallaudet
  7. You may leave the "Not Needed After" fields blank
  8. Fill in the next boxes with the complete citation for the article
  9. In the "University ID" box, type the number you entered when you logged in
  10. You may add further comments if you wish in the "Additional Comments" box
  11. Click "Submit Request."
  12. Articles may be sent to your myALADIN account electronically. Be sure to register your e-mail address with myALADIN in order to get web delivery of your articles. See How to Track CLS Book & Journal Article Requests in myALADIN for more information.

If your e-mail address is not registered with myALADIN, you will get paper copies of the articles, which may be picked up at the Library's Service Desk.

If you register your e-mail address with myALADIN but prefer to get paper copies, click the "Disable web delivery" box.
