Library Services for People with Disabilities
The Library has adaptive equipment and can make accommodations for people with disabilities.
Adaptive equipment- Photocopy machines with enlargement capabilities
- Captioned videos and DVDs
- Close captioned televisions
- Accessible workstations with ZoomText screen magnification software and large print keyboards
- CCTVs with magnifiers for reading print materials
Accommodations
To arrange for accommodations in advance, email library.help@gallaudet.edu. Requests for immediate assistance are handled at the discretion of Service Desk staff. Students who request accommodations must be registered with the Office for Students with Disabilities (OSWD) .
- Retrieving materials
Without advance notice, staff members will retrieve books and other materials as time and level of business permit. Particularly on evenings and weekends, retrievals may be limited to five items. - Photocopying
You must pay for copies with a copy card. You may leave items for copying and pick them up within 24-48 hours. Without advance notice, staff will help with copying or copy up to 10 pages as time allows. - Research help
You may make an appointment with a librarian for in-depth, uninterrupted help with research. A librarian can recommend search strategies and information sources. Users who need help reading citations, abstracts, and other materials must provide their own readers.
