Importing information to RefWorks from ALADIN Discovery

  1. Conduct your search and click on the title of the item you want to import.
  2. In the right column, under "Library Services," click "Export to Refworks/Endnote." Please note: On some computers this may say "Export to .ris (eg. zotero)").
  3. If you are using Internet Explorer (IE) as your browser:
    1. The default file name is export.ris
    2. Clicking Save will open a window so you can save the file with the default name or any name you choose, as well as select a location for the file.
    3. Using Open is not recommended.
  4. If you are using Mozilla Thunderbird as your browser:
    1. The default file name is export.ris
    2. Easiest: Clicking "Save file" will put a copy of the file export.ris on the computer's desktop.
    3. Most flexible: If you "Open with Notepad," the file name changes to export.ris.txt. Using Notepad's File drop-down menu Save, you can give the file a new name (for example, book1.txt or myfavorite.ris) and/or location.
  5. Log in to RefWorks.
  6. Select References/Import from the toolbar.
  7. Select Gallaudet University as the Import Filter/Data Source.
  8. Select WRLC (Endeavor Voyager) as the database.
  9. If desired, choose an Import References into Folder.
  10. Browse to find the text file you saved to your computer.
  11. Click Import.
  12. Your records should appear in the Last Imported folder, and in the folder you selected in step 11.
