Deaf Sports
The history of these Games is actually the history of the Comité International des Sports Silencieux / Comité International des Sports des Sourds (CISS - International Committee on Silent Sports / …on Sports for the Deaf), which is the organizing body and "owns" the Games. CISS's history can be found in:
Other international events of recent years, such as the Dresse/Maere Cup (in tennis), the Pan American Games for Deaf Athletes, the European Basketball Championships of the Deaf, World Cup Deaf Cricket, etc., can be found in the CISS bulletin (in DEAF Periodicals area).
Many American events of recent years can be found in the AAAD bulletin and Deaf sports review (both on reserve). They are also sometimes reported in the Silent news and DeafNation newspapers (recent years on reserve, older issues in DEAF Periodicals) and in Deaf life magazine (all on reserve). The Index to deaf periodicals online database may be helpful in locating these articles. Many older events (ca.1953-1979) can be found in the sports sections of the Silent worker and Deaf American magazines (in the DEAF Periodicals area). To save time and effort in searching these latter two, check the current coverage of the Index to deaf periodicals so you'll have to manually search only those issues not yet indexed.
A list of names, events, and results appears in the CISS bulletin, no.179, May 1995, p.8. In addition, Terence Parker from South Africa swam in the 2000 Olympics at Sydney, Australia.
